Can the dragon riders communicate with their dragons?
Yes, a dragon can communicate with anyone they wish and tend to only communicate through thought but can sometimes, if they wish, talk normally.

Can the dragon riders be knights?

Preferably not. Unless they have aligned themselves with either Sanglant or Samarid, they will not be knights. They have their own hierarchy which can be seen on the professions list. They also care very little about the politics of man as they view themselves to be above the race of men.

General Info on the dragon riders:

They are not outcasts as such. They are in a sense entirely their own race. They have their own villages and have very little to do with the wars of man out of personal choice. They are not a secret but it is almost impossible to reach their mountain city without the aid of a dragon. The village is made up of a series of caves and hidden valleys in the mountains.

Trainee Dragon Riders:

These are the new recruits. They have not been given a dragon yet and will do so after they have proved themselves worthy of being a dragon rider. They are taught the ways of the Dragon Riders through the help of an Elder Rider and their dragon. They are taught basic combat, and magic as well as academic subjects like history. This process usually takes six months, and then they are sent on a quest to find their dragon through the Maldragua Mountains to the home of the wild dragons. In this time period, the rider is not allowed to leave Strvitcomche unless accompanied or with the permission from the Elder. Those who disobey orders will lose their chance to be a dragon rider. All the trainees stay in a camp together until the day of their quest.

The Bond:

The dragon chooses its rider in the most peculiar way. He/she will kill the rider then bring him/her back to life with the dragon's own life force. Thus, the bond between rider and dragon is formed.

Young Dragon Riders:

They have passed the great quest and have acquired a young dragon. Their training with the Elder Dragon Riders continue as well as the training of the young dragon. . In this time period, the rider is not allowed to leave Strvitcomche unless accompanied or with the permission from the Elder. Those who disobey orders will lose their chance to be a dragon rider. The young rider is to live with his elder in his cave. The young rider will only gain his own cave when he proves his skills as a dragon rider.
