Alice rest her head in her hands sadly, elbows set on the windowsill. She knew she was going to have to come home again sometime, but she wished it had not been so soon. The girl sighed and sat up as her cat lept onto the windowsill. Her hand ran over the cat's back as it purred. "Hello Chessy darling," Alice murmured as the small cat rubbed his head against her palm. "I think you must be my only friend love. You and oz."
She had not been home long, and already Alice was in trouble. Her parents would do anything to keep her locked up in her room. She suspected they were just angry she had not died on her trip. The girl stood up and walked away from the cat to look at herself in the mirror. The cat began to clean itself as Alice left him. Alice made a face when she saw herself in the mirror. Her parents had made her put on a dress and had the servants make her look nice.
Scowling angrily, Alice immediately began to change. Back into boy cloths. A loose shirt and trousers with some suspenders were soon what she wore rather than her dress. She didn't notice that she'd forgotten to take the large bow out of her hair. Pulled on some boots and pet Chessy one more time. "I'll be back soon Chessy," she murmured softly.
The girl opened her door and peaked out cautiously. No one was walking down the hallway. Alice slipped out the door and closed it very quietly behind her. She hurried for the stairway, ducking behind statues each time a servant passed. Alice was soon out of the great mansion her parents lived in, and sneaking over to the barn. "Oz," she murmured happily once she'd reached her destination. The rabbit cage on the side of the barn. The black rabbit looked up at her with large eyes. Alice reached in and scooped him out of the cage, holding him carefully. He was completely still, except for his twitching nose.
Alice began to walk, holding the rabbit close to her. She walked blindly, simply enjoying the feeling of holding Oz. Alice walked straight into the city streets, walking with her rabbit. Suddenly, Alice realized she'd walked all the way to the market district. People were selling and buying all sorts of things around her. Alice looked down at Oz, feeling slightly awkward. She had not meant to take her rabbit so far from home. Alice reluctantly, turned and began to walk back to the mansion, when suddenly, a dog seemed to come out of nowhere, barking its head off at her. Oz began to squeal and struggle.
"No!" Alice cried as the rabbit wriggled free from her arms and bolted. Alice ran after the rabbit, crying. "Oz!" she screamed, running after the black bunny, unsure if she would even be able to find him.
