SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS MEDillon frowned at his dragon elder. Some days he hated the old man, did his elder really have to speak to him as if he was an idiot? "I heard you Elder" he said struggling to keep the frustration he was feeling out of his voice. "Then why do you never listen? I must have told you at least a hundred times that being a Dragon Rider is not a competition", Dillon just kept silent, not wanting to admit the real reasons for him attempting to be the best trainee Dragon Rider. "If you carry on with this attitude you may not live to bond with a Dragon" his elder said shaking his head. "Yes, Elder" he said, making sure that he kept his gaze low. He bowed and left the room before the Elder could say anything else.
"Damn Allen!" he cursed as he walked outside, since his main rival had run off all the elders had been telling Dillon to stop being as competitive and arrogant. He kicked at a stone and swore when his boot instead kick a rock that was sticking out of the ground. Since Allen had run off, the elders had been blaming him for it. They actually believed that his competitiveness had scared off the other boy and now they felt they had to curb it before he 'scared off' any other trainees. He frowned as he watched a young rider and his dragon playing an odd variation of the child's game catch. The Dragon Leader himself had spoken to Dillon the day Allen had run off telling him that him and Allen were the two most promising Trainees, and that they suspected that Dillon had unknowingly scared off Allen. He shook his head again and turned around wanting to find a place where he could be by himself.
None of them understood, he couldn't stop competing with the others. If he wasn't the best, if he didn't show them what he could do, his father would reject him and refuse to acknowledge that Dillon was his son. He walked through the maze of caves that made up the dragon riders' home. He knew exactly where he was going, he had found this place a few days after becoming a Trainee Dragon Rider and often came here when he needed to be by himself. He finally reached his destination and looked around, making sure that no one was looking before he crawled through a hole in the cave wall. The hole took him to a ledge that over looked the rugged landscape that surrounded Maldragua. He sat down and sighed. Finally peace, a place where he wasn't having to put up with the acusing stares of his peers and Dragon Riders. He smiled to himself when he realised that he had just called the other Trainee Dragon Riders his peers. Maybe he was changing after all. He glanced around when he heard footsteps behind him.

You walk a lonely road Oh! How far you are from home Syrii walked up to the caves, she had seen Dillon come into the cave. "Dillon?" she called out wondering if he was still here, or if he had gone into a different Cave. She wasn't sure what had been told to him but she knew if it was the elders it wasn't a complement. She rolled her eyes at how everytime she turned around they were telling her that the theory of everything instead of trying to do everything in practical application.
Walking up she knelt down near the inner cave hallow and sat there. She sat there as if taking a rest, she didn't see anyone around. "I just wanted to talk if your there, I can listen if you want to just talk" she said as she smirked wondering if she could actually help him with anything.
Syrii looked at the floor and started to draw on the floor little designs as she thought and wondered if Dillon was even considering her a friend or if she was just another annoyance. Not sure what to think about all of this she just prayed they both became Dragon riders in the end. She was willing to help him with his sword fighting so that he could get the upper hand on the sword trainers. She wasn't sure if he even was grateful about what she did to try and help him.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS MEDillon tilted his head smiling when he heard some one say his name. He recognised that voice, it belonged to Syrii one of the older trainees who was supposed to go on her quest to choose her dragon any day now. She must have seen that he was upset about something and dedcided to follow him. He had forgotten that the elf trainees were able to walk silently without any humans hearing them coming. She must have gotten careless just now, when he had heard her or maybe she had wanted him to hear her approaching.
He slipped back through the hole as she spoke again. He needed some one ele's perspective on the whole Valken running off thing. Hopefully Syrii would be able to find an explanation that didn't involve him being too competitive. He walked up to where she was sitting. "Talking sounds like a good idea" he said smiling at her. Syrii was one of the few trainees he had never competed with, she had been training for longer than him so he found it pointless to compete with her.
Dillon sat next to her and glanced at her. "What was your first impression of me when I first came here to train to become a Dragon Rider?" he asked her. "And be honest, if you thought I was an over-confident, arrogant competitive brat, just say so" he added frowning slightly. As he waited for her to answer he stared out infront of him trying to figure out if what they were saying was true. "They're saying it's my fault Valken run off, that I was too competitive. Do you think they're right?" he asked voicing his worries out loud for the first time in days. He was actually scared that the elders were right about why Valken had run off, and that it really was his fault.

Syrii looked at Dillon and shook her head. She took a deep breath and said "Dillon, Valken left because he wanted to leave, there was nothing you or i could have done to stop him. He wanted to leave therefore he gave up the ability to become a dragon rider because he was stupid," She said as she sighed as she couldn't believe the elders were pinning this on him. She wasn't happy about the way they were trying to get him to leave. "I thought that you were a young man who was trying to find his place in the world, that you were out to prove something," She said as she took a minute and said "the elders are trying to find a scape goat and not take the blame themselves," she said as put her hand on his shoulder. Syrii took a minute to push some hair from her face as she sat there with Dillon. she took a minute an wondered what she could do to make him feel better about this. She closed her eyes and thought then decided that maybe they should go work on their sword work. "Why don't we go work on your sword work and foot work?" she suggested.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS MEDillon smiled grimly at Syrii's words. The fact was she was right about Valken, but at the same time he wasn't sure that the elders were trying to make him leave. If they were, they were doing a terrible job of it. "Try telling that to the elders, they seem to be gasping at straws to find a reason for him leaving" he said staring infront of him. "I think they're scared of another trainee leaving, there's rumours going around that the number of Dragon Riders are decreasing" he added. He was sure Syrii must have also heard the rumours that the number of Dragon Riders had halved over the past century. Just the number of empty caves put truth to the rumours.
"Hmmm, that does sound quite different from the general description I gotten from others" he said smiling. Syrii seemed to be the only trainee who had seemed to make an attempt of befriending him and he respected her for that. He nodded at her words. "I know that, but in some ways they are right that I'm too competitive and I never got along with Valken but I would never drive another trainee away just to prove myself" she said frowning. "That's just not right to deliberately cut short some one else's dream" he said knowing not that long ago he would have disagreed with himself.
He stared at the ground infront of his feet, deep in thought. He understood what Syrii was saying about him wanting to prove himself because it was true, he did want to prove himself. To both his father and the Elders. The only problem was, to prove himself to one he would have to disappoint the other. He smiled at Syrii's suggestion. "sounds like a good plan, I'm still struggling with that maneuver the elders taught us last week and they want it perfected by our next practice session" he said standing up and held his hand out for Syrii.

Syrii smiled as she listened to him talk. He seemed worried about a lot and she knew it would cause his lessons to slip. She would let him work out everything on the sword field. "Yeah you do need some polishing," she said laughing as she took his hand. "So stop thinking about Valken and the elders for now and lets put everything into learning and perfecting your skills, and one last thing the only person you have to prove anything to is yourself and the dragon that will take you as their partner." she said as she smiled and grabbed his arm and ran to the sword practice field. Syrii went and grabbed her wavy blade she loved so much and flipped it about with ease. She smiled as she motioned for him to grab his blade then went to the center of the training field. She stood there ready and waiting. She wasn't sure what he needed to perfect but she would make him learn with the edge of the blade.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME"You seem to have no problem cutting me down to size," he said, half serious. Her words had annoyed him slightly. After all, he had only been in training a few months and had improved in leaps and bounds. Valken had kept him on his toes when he had been there. Now that the rivalry had dissapated he did not know how to approach his training.
"Pushy much?" Dillion growled, a hint of laughter in his voice. "Are you my friend or my elder?" His eyes glinted slyly at the soon to be young rider. He followed her exasperatedly to the grounds and grabbed his own simple sword from the sword rack. A cunning frown touched his lips before he sauntered over to near where she was standing.
He quickly and cleanly swung the sword at the girl, testing her reactions. She may think he needed work, but she too could probably do with some. He remained light on his feet waiting for the girl to react. He stepped back holding the sword up to deflect any counter swing that may come from Syrii's sword. The girl may be a trainee like him, but she had been training longer for longer than him and he had no idea what ricks she might have hidden up her sleeve.

Syrii smiled as she heard him complain about her cutting him down she laughed again and said "I just don't want your ego to get you kill, i do want to see you later riding atop a dragon not attending your burial." she saw him go for the strike and blocked him. She smiled as she felt the way his hit went against her blade. "Nice hit, lets see how you deal with what I bring," she said as she feinted to the right then spun left and did a sweep. She was getting closer to being done with her trainee life. She smirked and spun her blade and went for a strike. She didn't want to hurt him to much but as her father had taught her a little cut makes you remember to protect what's open. Syrii took a deep breath and went into the zone she always seemed to go into as she stayed light on her feet she struck at his feet to test his speed. She was testing his limits and ready to push him past them.'

Dillon smiled and shook his shaggy head at Syrii's words. "Good to know you still care about me" he commented sarcastically. "I was beginning to think that you had stopped caring about me" he added attempting to keep a serious somber expression on his face. His facade cracked open and a shimmering humorous smile appeared as his attempt to remain serious fell flat. He smirked in triumph as his blade clashed with Syrii's, feeling the adrenaline rush through his veins. His eyes traced the sparks as metal clashed against metal.
"Bring it" he said grinning slyly. The girl kept underestimating him, she may have been training longer than him but he had the testosterone advantage. His muscles were tense in anticipation of what movements Syrii might make. He felt his muscles coil in anticipation, ready to strike out like a snake or retreat like losing army. He knew that Syrii was not the type of sparring partner that would forgive him easily for not paying attention. She had a nasty habit of making small cuts that would remind her sparring partner to pay attention to what she was doing. Odf course, he enjoyed his arms free of her little reminder cuts. He stepped back and lowered his blade slightly in order to stop her blade from slipping past his defenses. His pride would never allow him to be beaten by a girl.He tilted his head mishcheviously.
"You know, you too need some cutting down to size," he kept his mind alert while he spoke, as she may take advantage of his speaking.
He frowned as Syrii then struck at his feet, forcing him to jump back and lower his blade to defend his legs from Syrii's quick moving blade. He knew the girl would test him to his limits, she did that everytime they sparred. He was not too proud to admit that the girl did have some talent and certainly refused to underestimate her.

Syrii smiled as she watched how much Dillon had come from the last time they had spared. "Good progress, Very good progress," she said softly as she decided to fight a little on the more rugged and unpredictable side. She feinted twice only to flip and go for a behind the back tap on the neck. She smiled as she watched his reaction. She knew this would be what helped him later on when they were really in fights where it wasn't all about rules, you had to gain instinct and she would help him develop that instinct as much as possible.
She didn't know how long it would be before she was a dragon rider and she didn't want to leave her fellow trainee's training incomplete. She always knew she was at a disadvantage as she was a quick study, she loved to finish the book work quickly so she could get to the practical application of what she had just learned. Letting her mind get distracted some that was her one thing she couldn't get rid of.
She took a quick examine of Dillon's stance, so rigid and formal all by the book she would get him on that as by the book had flaws she had found over her time training but each time she pointed them out while training with the elders she ended up with extra chores so she showed people in spars how easily they would fall if they didn't adapt and learn to add what was comfortable and safe for them.
Syrii wouldn't say anything yet she wanted to see if he knew what she was thinking. She knew they had worked together for a while now and it seemed they were starting to rub off onto one another. She smiled slyly as she took a minute to wait for his reaction her blade would leave a paper thin cut on his collar bone once he removed it since it was her style to leave training reminders in their spars so he wouldn't forget unless he got out the right way then no cut would be left. She watched the shadows around her waiting.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS MEDillon frowned when Syrii began to become less predictable and rugged in her style. It had been some time since he had last spared with the girl and he had forgotten a bit of her unpredictable style. He kept his expression neutral as he narrowly avoided getting tapped on his neck. He was not about to complain about her breaking the rules. He knew that the moment his training was completed that there would be no rules in a real fight. After all there was no place for chivalry in a real battle and trying to follow the rules may get him killed if he continuously concerned himself with the rules of sparing for training purposes in a real battle.
Dillon was certain that one of the reasons for Syrii pushing him like this was her concern for his training. The girl seemed to have developed a soft spot for him but he was not about to chide her for this. After all she would probably simply then find a way during their sparing to get her revenge and he enjoyed her friendship. Dillon frowned slightly as he realised that if he moved incorrectly, he may get a reminder from Syrii to not be over confident. He shifted his weight further back and lowered his left shoulder before spinning and removing his sword. He kept his movements smooth and quick. He allowed a wry smile to slip onto his face as the words of his elder came to mind. The old man always told Dillon ‘more speed, less haste’ when he had first begun his training. It had taken him a few weeks to work out the meaning of the words but they had proved to be vital to all aspects of his training.
He laughed softly as he shook his head at Syrii. “How about we stop before we wear ourselves out?” he said keeping a cheerful expression on his face. “The elders would murder us if we killed ourselves from exhaustion”. He was speaking truthfully, their latest sparing sessions had become extremely intense which didn’t help the fact that the training sessions were also now extremely intense. He knew that as a dragon rider he would not be able to stop a fight so abruptly as now, so he wanted to take advantage of this luxury while he still could. Before Syrii could retaliate he decided to distract her with small talk. “So have they set a date yet for your bonding?”, he asked genuinely interested in her answer. Once Syrii became a young rider he would see much less of her and their sparing sessions would become much less. He put his sword down and sat on the ground, waiting for either Syrii’s answer or a retort about his suddenly ending their sparing session.

Syrii laughed as he stopped the sparring match. "Alright don't want to be the cause of your death," she said as she heard his next question and her smile faultered slightly and she went to sit down. "They keep telling me anytime now , but i don't know when but i hope you will be ready soon so you can bond as well," she said as she set to cleaning her blade from the sweat and such. She took a deep breath as she looked at Dillon. "Any update on how much longer you will be training?" she asked as she looked up at him.
Once she said all that she replayed the spar in her head and said "You do have some good moves and i see the saying you were told in the beginning got you out of my little puzzle for you," she smiled. She didn't want to lose her friend as she knew how often people lost their friends. She took a deep breath and laid out relaxing. She didn't want to out do everything so quickly. She didn't want to be thrown into the world so soon but her training she knew was quickly coming to an end.
Relaxing for the first time in a while she wondered what she would face in the quest that was looming over all of their heads. She was not sure what to expect as she looked up at the sky and watched it then looked down at Dillon and said "Why not lay down beside me, and rest," she was glad that she had chosen to help Dillon now, She didn't want him to worry about her either but she was glad she had helped him as much as she had.
